How to crop a video to the right ratio for social media
Upload a video and pick the ratio: 9:16 for Reels, Stories, TikTok and Shorts, 1:1 for a square post, 4:5 for the Instagram feed, 16:9 for standard widescreen, or a custom ratio by entering a width and a height. The tool crops from the center and gives you a ready-to-post file. The video can be up to about 200 MB, depending on your device memory.
Why crop instead of letting the app decide? When you upload a horizontal video to a platform built for vertical content, the app usually crops it or adds bars in a way you cannot control. By choosing the ratio yourself you decide what stays in the frame. The crop is always taken from the center and the picture is never stretched, so people and objects keep their natural proportions.
The tool only changes the aspect ratio. It keeps your video at its original resolution and never scales it up or down, so there is no quality loss from resizing. For example, a 1920×1080 clip cropped to 9:16 comes out at roughly 608×1080, not at a fixed 1080×1920. If you need a specific resolution afterwards, use the video resizer.
Because the crop is centered, check that the subject is near the middle of the frame before you start.
