How to make an audio file louder or quieter

Upload an audio file, drag the Volume slider to the level you want and download the result. The slider goes from 0% to 200% of the original volume, and 100% leaves it as it was. The tool accepts common audio formats up to about 100 MB, and the adjusted audio always downloads as an MP3, whatever format you started with.

When is this useful? A voice memo recorded far from the microphone, a podcast clip that is much quieter than the rest of your episode, a track that is too loud next to the others in a playlist, or a ringtone that needs to be a little louder are all common cases. The tool scales the volume of the whole file by the percentage you choose, without any other change to the sound.

A word of caution about going above 100%. Boosting makes the audio louder, but if the original was already close to full volume, pushing it further can cause clipping, which sounds like harsh distortion, and it also raises background noise along with the voice. If the problem is uneven loudness or noise rather than overall level, try the audio enhancer instead. To shape bass and treble, use the audio equalizer.

Practical tips: trim the part you need first with the audio trimmer, and if you are assembling several clips, set each to a similar volume before joining them with the audio merger.
