Which audio format should you pick?
Drop in an audio file, choose the output format (MP3, WAV, OGG or M4A) and, for compressed formats, a quality of 128, 192 or 320 kbps, then download the result. It works with any common audio format, with files up to about 100 MB, and runs in your browser so your audio is never uploaded.
MP3 is the most compatible and lightweight option and works almost everywhere. WAV does not compress, so it is much heavier but keeps the original quality intact, which is useful for editing. OGG is a free, open alternative with quality similar to MP3. M4A is common on Apple devices and usually sounds a little better than MP3 at the same size.
Bitrate: 192 kbps is a good balance for almost everything. Use 320 kbps if quality is the priority and 128 kbps if file size matters most. Converting a low-bitrate file to a higher one will not improve it, because the missing detail is already gone, and converting from one compressed format to another loses a little more each time, so keep your original.
