How to restore an old or scanned photo in your browser

Upload a scanned or phone-photographed picture (JPG, PNG or WebP) and use the controls to bring it back. Tone and exposure has brightness, contrast, shadow recovery and saturation, plus an Auto-fix button that gives you a good starting point. Color balance has temperature and tint to remove the yellow or green cast that old prints pick up. Detail has noise reduction to soften scan grain and sharpening to bring back faded edges. Straighten and crop lets you level a crooked scan and trim the borders.

You can also apply a tone preset: black and white, sepia or vintage, with an intensity slider so you decide how strong the look is. A before and after comparison lets you check every change against the original, and a reset button takes you back to the start if you go too far. When you are happy, click Apply and download.

A practical order that works well: first straighten and crop, then fix exposure and shadows, then correct the color cast, and only then add noise reduction and sharpening, because sharpening first would also exaggerate the grain. Go gently with noise reduction, since too much makes faces look smooth and plastic. For a scan, 300 to 600 dpi is usually plenty. The tool works best up to about 2200 pixels on the long edge, and larger photos are scaled down automatically to keep things fast.

Be realistic about what it does. It improves tone, noise and sharpness, but it does not repair physical damage such as tears, creases, scratches or missing pieces, which needs manual retouching, and it does not add color to a black and white photo. Every adjustment is a standard image-processing technique running locally, not an AI model. Afterwards you can crop the picture with the image cropper, resize it with the image resizer, shrink the file with the image compressor or add your signature with the watermark tool. Nothing is uploaded: the whole process runs in your browser.
