How to convert images between JPG, PNG and WebP
Upload one or several images, choose the output format, JPG, PNG or WebP, and download the converted files. HEIC and HEIF photos from an iPhone are recognized automatically and need no extra software. Files can be up to about 50 MB each.
Which format should you choose? JPG is the most widely supported and suits photos you will send, print or upload to almost any site. PNG keeps transparent areas, which makes it the right choice for logos, icons and graphics with a see-through background, although the files are usually larger. WebP is designed for the web and often gives a good balance of quality and file size, but it is not accepted everywhere, so use it mainly for your own website.
The most common use is HEIC. iPhones save photos in HEIC by default because it is efficient, but many apps, websites and Windows programs cannot open it. Converting to JPG solves that in a couple of clicks. If you are curious about why this happens, read our guide to HEIC photos.
A note on WebP: some versions of Safari cannot create WebP files. When that is the case the WebP option disables itself automatically, and you can choose JPG or PNG instead. Everything runs in your browser, so your photos are never uploaded. After converting you can shrink the files with the image compressor or set an exact size with the image resizer.
