How does browser-based screen recording work?

This tool uses your browser's built-in screen-sharing and recording features — the same technology used by video calls — to capture your screen directly, with no software to install and nothing ever uploaded to a server. Choose to share your entire screen, a single window, or a browser tab, and the recording happens locally on your device the whole time.

The result downloads as a WebM video file, a format supported by all modern browsers and most video players and editors. If you need it in MP4 instead, use the Convert video format tool on the recording afterward.
