How does browser-based screen recording work?

This screen recorder uses your browser's built-in screen-sharing and recording features, the same technology used by video calls. Click Start, choose what to share (your entire screen, a single window or one browser tab), do whatever you want to capture and click Stop. Your recording downloads as a WebM video file.

It is useful for tutorials, product demos, bug reports for a support team, recording a presentation or saving something you are allowed to keep. The recording is captured and saved locally on your device the whole time. Nothing is sent to a server, and the length is limited only by your device's memory.

Sound: if you allow microphone access, or share system or tab audio (depending on your browser), the recording includes it. WebM plays in all modern browsers and most video players and editors. If you need MP4 instead, run the file through the video format converter.

Tips for a clean recording: close chat apps and silence notifications so private messages do not appear, share a single tab or window instead of the whole screen, and do a ten-second test first. Screen recording depends on browser support, and most mobile browsers do not offer it yet, so this tool works best on a desktop computer.
